Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts to Promote Zaghouan's Archaeological Sites and Local Initiatives
The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts has decided to include the archaeological sites of the Zaghouan governorate in official tourist circuits. A promotion plan for the region, as well as for the valorization of its handicrafts and support for local tourism projects and initiatives led by young people and women, will be developed, announced Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Sofiane Tekaya, during a visit to Zaghouan on Sunday, May 25.
The Minister highlighted the natural tourist potential and cultural heritage of Zaghouan, calling on travel agencies to incorporate its archaeological sites into their official tourist itineraries.
Tekaya announced that the Ministry will support projects led by young people and women, private enterprises, and local initiatives in the fields of tourism and traditional industries.
He confirmed that the Ministry will soon launch a specification document for alternative tourist accommodations, including tourist camps, rural stays, temporary stays, and family hosting, which will help regulate the legal status of several active units in this field.
During his visit to Zaghouan, the Minister toured several tourist projects and archaeological sites, including:
- The Zaghouan tourist zone project
- The rehabilitation project of heritage houses in Sidi Medien
- The creation of a rural model residence in the Zaghouan mountains
- The Berber village of Zriba El Alia
- The Thuburbo Majus archaeological site in the El Fahs delegation
He also visited the Temple of the Waters of Zaghouan, where an exhibition of handicraft products was being held as part of the Rose Festival (Nesri).
