European Commission Launches Formal Investigation into X, Formerly Known as Twitter
The European Commission has launched a formal investigation into X, formerly known as Twitter, citing concerns that the company, owned by Elon Musk since 2022, has breached the rules of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
According to the Commission's website: "The main objective of the DSA is to prevent illegal and harmful activities online, as well as the spread of disinformation. It ensures the safety of users, protects fundamental rights, and creates a fair and open online platform environment."
The Commission will focus on the social network's efforts to combat illegal content, the effectiveness of measures to counter information manipulation on the platform, and the initiatives taken by X to improve transparency.
The Commission has clarified that the opening of a formal infringement procedure does not prejudge its outcome.
