Tunisia-Nordic Roundtable on Sustainable Enterprises 2025

The Tunisia-Nordic Roundtable on Sustainable Enterprises 2025 confirms the shared willingness of Tunisia and Nordic countries to build a partnership based on innovation, sustainability, and trust. Organized today, October 8, by Conect, this meeting brought together ambassadors and companies from Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Tunisia around a common goal: to combine economic development and ecological transition.

Opening of the Forum

During the opening of the forum, Tunisian Secretary of State Wael Chouchane, representing the government, welcomed the exemplary cooperation between the Nordic embassies and the Conect organization. He recalled that this initiative is part of the follow-up to the tour made earlier this year by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad in the Nordic capitals. This approach, he emphasized, has allowed for the "revival of historical friendship ties" between Tunisia and its partners, while laying the foundations for a sustainable economic and technological partnership.

Green Ambition

Tunisia is positioning itself today as a strategic player in regional energy transition. Wael Chouchane recalled the national strategy that aims to triple the share of renewable energies in the country's electricity mix by 2030, to reach 4850 MW of installed capacity. The long-term goal is even more ambitious: 50% of electricity from renewable sources by 2035, and 100% by 2050.

Already, several hundred megawatts are expected to be commissioned before the end of 2025, while a pipeline of over 2 GW is under development. These projects, carried by Tunisian and foreign investors, embody a new industrial dynamic. They represent not only a response to the country's energy needs but also a driver of job creation and local innovation.

This growth in renewable energies could transform Tunisia, long an importer of natural gas, into an exporter of green energy to neighboring markets. The country's solar and wind potential is considered considerable and is attracting increasing interest from foreign partners.

Inspiration from the North

The Nordic countries serve as a model here. Their energy policies are based on cooperation, transparency, and innovation. Between 2012 and 2022, they managed to increase the share of renewable energies in their final consumption from 50% to 62%, demonstrating that sustainability and competitiveness can go hand in hand.

Inspired by this experience, Tunisia intends to develop its own model of green growth. The Secretary of State invited Nordic companies, financial institutions, and multilateral partners to invest more in joint projects.

"We call on Nordic actors to strengthen their presence in Tunisia through initiatives anchored in local realities," he declared.

The areas of cooperation envisioned go beyond the energy sector: they include sustainable agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry, aquaculture, and vocational training.

The Nordic embassies have already announced the holding of the Nordic Tunisian Sustainable Business Forum in autumn 2026, in order to prolong the discussions and consolidate the partnerships.
