Tunisian Films Shine at Montreal's Vues d'Afrique International Film Festival

The film "Les Enfants Rouges" (Red Path), the second feature film by Lotfi Achour, has added a new distinction to its list of achievements: a special mention in the "Human Rights" category at the 41st Vues d'Afrique International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada. The winners of this edition were announced during the closing ceremony on Sunday, April 13.

Meanwhile, the short film "Charité", written and directed by Tunisian filmmaker Feriel Kallel, won the first prize in the "Regards d'Ici" category. These two films are among the 86 productions from 35 countries that competed in the official competition, which took place from April 3 to 13, 2025.

Already selected in over 50 international film festivals and awarded with 15 prizes, "Les Enfants Rouges" is set to be released in theaters on April 23. Inspired by real events that occurred in November 2015, the film tells the tragic story of two young shepherds attacked by jihadists while tending their flock in the remote and disadvantaged region of Mghilla, in northwest Tunisia. Nizar, 16, loses his life, while Achraf, 14, survives and is forced to deliver a macabre message to his family. The screenplay was co-written with Natacha de Pontcharra, Doria Achour, and Sylvain Cattenoy.
