New Text to Shake Up Tunisian Drivers' Habits: License Revocation for Serious Offenses
A new text is set to revolutionize the habits of Tunisian drivers: license revocation will once again become mandatory for serious offenses, such as running a red light or excessive speeding. This was announced by Sami Rachikou, Director of Traffic Police at the Ministry of the Interior, on Monday, July 28, 2025, during his intervention on the "يوم سعيد" program on National Radio.
This reform project, developed in collaboration with the Ministries of Transport and Equipment, aims to reestablish an immediate and deterrent sanction in the face of the increasing dangerous behavior on the roads. According to Rachikou, license revocation will apply from a speed excess of more than 10 km/h:
- +10 km/h → 1-month license revocation
- +20 km/h → 2-month license revocation
- +30 km/h → 3-month license revocation
He also confirmed a revision of Article 100 of the Highway Code, which will allow the police to detect offenses using modern technologies, including surveillance cameras. A measure that should reduce dependence on manual checks and strengthen the system's effectiveness.
Recently adopted in a ministerial council, the bill will be transmitted to Parliament after the summer break, with a view to coming into force as soon as possible, indicated the Director.
