Global Beer Production Remains Stable in 2024, with Notable Shifts in Rankings
Global beer production remained almost stable in 2024, experiencing a slight decline of 0.3% to reach approximately 1.875 billion hectoliters, according to the annual report by analysis firm BarthHaas published in July 2025. Despite this slowdown, major producers maintained their dominant position, with some notable changes in the rankings.
China remains far ahead, despite a 5% decline, with a production volume of 341 million hectoliters, accounting for nearly 60% of the Asian market. The United States holds onto second place with 184.5 million hectoliters, but experienced a 4.8% decline. Brazil completes the top three, with a production volume of 147.4 million hectoliters, experiencing a slight decline of 1%.
In fourth place, Mexico confirms its continued growth with a 1.8% increase and a volume of 145 million hectoliters. The surprise comes from Russia, which gains a spot in the global rankings by surpassing Germany. Thanks to a growth rate of nearly 9%, Russia now occupies the fifth position, while Germany falls back with a production volume of 83.9 million hectoliters (-1%).
Beyond the top 5, the report highlights the African dynamic. The continent posted a remarkable 6.7% growth in 2024, reaching 160.5 million hectoliters. Countries like Nigeria (+8%), Angola (+35%), or Ethiopia (+8.1%) are driving this growth, confirming Africa as the most dynamic region in the global beer market.
According to BarthHaas, the outlook for 2025 remains stable, but economic and geopolitical uncertainties could influence this trend.
