Tunisian Economy Minister and Islamic Development Bank President Sign Agreement to Support SMEs

The Tunisian Minister of Economy and the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) have signed an agreement to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Tunisia, according to an official statement released on May 1st. The IDB will provide financing of $50 million for this purpose, while an envelope of $10 million will be allocated in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The priority areas of cooperation include supporting SMEs, strengthening investment funds, renewable energy, human resource development, and others.

The Minister also met with businessmen and investment companies, including the President of the Tunisian-Saudi Business Council, to discuss investment opportunities in Tunisia, highlighting high-value-added sectors and preferential advantages. She presented government reforms aimed at improving the business climate and invited companies to participate in the Tunisia Investment Forum in June 2024. This initiative follows her participation in the IDB's annual meetings in Riyadh, where a workshop on concessional financing also took place.
