Tunisia Embarks on Energy Transition with Solar Power

Three Public Institutions to Adopt Photovoltaic Systems

In a bid to transition to a more sustainable energy model, three public institutions in Tunisia are set to install photovoltaic systems to generate their own electricity and improve the energy efficiency of their buildings.

Objectives of the Initiative

The initiative aims to reduce energy consumption and limit public subsidies on energy products. This measure was officially announced through a joint decree published in the Official Journal on November 27, 2025, by the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, and the Minister of Transport.

Framework and Funding

This initiative is part of the energy transition program, which includes the "Grid-Connected Photovoltaic" and "Energy Efficiency Program in Public Buildings" projects. These projects are financed by a loan and a grant from the German Development Bank (KfW) and the Energy Transition Fund, totaling 13 million dinars.

Beneficiary Institutions

The beneficiaries of this phase are:

  • The Official Printing Press in Ben Arous
  • The Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA) in Tozeur
  • The Presidency of the Government building in Bab Laassal, Tunis

Implementation and Supervision

The National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) will oversee the implementation of the program, which is expected to be executed over a period of six months from the publication of the decree.
