Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator Program Returns for Sixth Cohort
After the success of previous editions, the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator program is back. Visa Inc. has announced the opening of applications for the sixth cohort of its program. The three-month program aims to support the growth of fintech startups operating on the African continent. Entrepreneurs have until May 17, 2026, to submit their applications.
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to startups from the Seed stage to Series A. To be eligible, they must:
- Have a minimum viable product (MVP) or a solution ready to be commercialized
- Demonstrate commercial traction with a product already tested in the market
- Operate in Africa or have a clear expansion plan on the continent
Key Themes
The solutions sought must fit into key themes, including:
- New payment flows
- Embedded finance
- Support for SMEs
- Payment infrastructure
- Sustainable and inclusive finance
Program Structure
The accelerator adopts a hybrid format over a period of three months, structured as follows:
- One week of integration (onboarding)
- Ten weeks of intensive online program
- One week dedicated to investor relations
- A final Demo Day organized in person
Benefits for Selected Startups
The selected startups will benefit from technical and strategic support, including individualized mentorship sessions with industry experts. Visa also offers specialized training, as well as privileged access to its developer portal and payment solution expertise. In terms of finance, participants can access product benefits and discounts from over 100 partners, estimated at $200,000. The Demo Day is an opportunity to raise funds from Visa, Plug and Play Tech Center, and other venture capital investors.
