Kenyan Startup Peleza Merges with Nigerian Security Platform Prembly to Form Prembly Group

Kenyan startup Peleza, specializing in digital identity and background verification, has merged with Nigerian digital security platform Prembly, based in the United States. The new entity, dubbed Prembly Group, will offer advanced solutions to businesses. The details of the merger have not been disclosed.

Founded in 2021, Prembly operates a security infrastructure and compliance software that helps emerging market businesses acquire customers securely and conduct transparent cross-border transactions. Peleza brings its expertise in the East African region, having worked in partnership with international companies such as Uber, Bolt, and FedEx.

The merger will enable over 100 employees from both startups to work together across operational offices in Uganda, Kenya, the United States, and Nigeria.

The two entities had previously collaborated. Since its inception, Prembly has verified over 40 million individuals in its system, a factor that Peleza has leveraged for a year and a half to facilitate its operations. Unifying the two databases will create an offering capable of serving more markets and businesses seeking top-notch data integrity and regulatory compliance services (highlighting risks and strengthening identity management). The targeted sectors include telecommunications, e-commerce, and finance.

This business model does not yet exist in Tunisia. However, there is a regulatory framework in place for the financial sector, namely credit bureaus, which can provide such services. With the new check regulation, the need for such data is expected to intensify. A promising avenue for future entrepreneurs to explore.
