National Workshop on Cold Chain Development Opportunities in Tunisia
A national workshop was held on October 29 in Tunis to discuss opportunities for developing cold chain networks in Tunisia, as part of a project funded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Organized by the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), the workshop brought together Fathi Hanchi, Director General of ANME, Erba Cecilia from the Italian Ministry of Environment, and Benjamin Hickman, Programme Officer of the UNEP Cool Coalition.
In his address, Hanchi praised the support of UNEP and Italy, highlighting the importance of strengthening local capacities to develop cold chain networks. He noted that Tunisia has received a $1 million grant from the African Development Bank for an in-depth study on the cold chain network in the Bab Saadoun health plateau, which includes eight major healthcare facilities and various public buildings.
This workshop, supported by ANME and the Bank, aims to outline the steps to ensure the profitability and success of the investment.
According to Hanchi, this system could lead to a 50% reduction in heating and cooling costs, a crucial issue for sustainable development and energy efficiency in Tunisia.
