Zone01: A Coding Accelerator for Kenyan Youth
Zone01, a coding accelerator under LakeHub based in Kisumu, aims to train hundreds of young Kenyans in coding and integrate them into the job market, thanks to an $80,000 grant from the KIEP-SKIES program.
Since last year, Zone01 Kisumu has been training at least 100 young people from Kisumu County in the tech sector. This program offers a fully funded two-year software development training, followed by a guaranteed three-year work contract.
The program is the result of a partnership between LakeHub, the Kisumu County government, 01 Talent Africa, and United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (CGLU Africa).
The first cohort received over 13,000 applications, from which 100 young people were selected to undergo a two-year coding training with a monthly stipend of $100. The waiting list for the second cohort has already exceeded 600 people and continues to grow.
