Environmental Projects to be Implemented Urgently, Says Head of Government

During the last ministerial council meeting held on Wednesday, January 22, Head of Government Kamel Madouri presented several environmental projects that need to be addressed urgently, according to his assessment. Among these projects, he listed the fight against pollution, household waste management, water treatment and desalination facilities.

The ministerial council discussed the removal of waste dumps and the governance of the disinfection and maintenance system for the environment. It was recalled that to achieve this, existing treatment methodologies need to be developed, legislation on waste treatment and valorization needs to be elaborated, and modern, effective, and mandatory technologies need to be utilized to implement the decisions of the Restricted Ministerial Council held on January 6, 2025, on the governance and efficiency of the cleanliness and ecology sector.

Then, the Head of Government reviewed the main projects that will be finalized or launched in this framework, including the following four:

1. Sousse Water Desalination Station

The first project mentioned was the Sousse water desalination station, with recommendations to accelerate the project's works and bring it into service.

2. Waste Valorization Units

The second project cited was the finalization of the feasibility study for the establishment of waste valorization units in Greater Tunis, Ariana, Bizerte, Mannouba, Sfax, Gafsa, Djerba, and the Sahel region, as well as the rehabilitation and reforestation of the Borj Chakir landfill.

3. Biogas Production from Household Waste
