Artificial Intelligence Officially Enters Higher Education

Teaching and learning in the era of artificial intelligence - it sounds great, doesn't it? The installation of the new digital library powered by artificial intelligence, "E-Learning Mentor" (ELM) or "علم" in the data center of the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education has just been finalized.

"All the different components are now operational, hosted in Tunisia, using the new supercomputer and various components: LLM, web application, mobile application, back-office application, workflow for document management and approval, etc.," announces Nizar Yaiche, PwC Partner and former Minister of Finance.

A sovereign Tunisian artificial intelligence system under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) in all fields of education and scientific research. The challenge: free and open source, it will provide Tunisian students, teachers, and researchers from various disciplines (medicine, engineering, law, art, humanities, etc.) with access to a wide range of resources such as books, courses, conferences, doctoral theses, and more. And this, in three languages: Arabic, French, and English. Concretely, students will be able to ask questions to the AI, verify knowledge, set individual goals, plan reading, etc.

This system brings together solid know-how and Tunisian expertise, particularly from startups such as InstaDeep and ClusterLab. And financed by Tunisians.

With "ELM", the idea is to respond to all use cases, expand knowledge, and save time. It will be fully operational by September, according to the same source.

On the other hand, and as part of this project, the Minister of Education, Moncef Boukthir, highlighted the need to create a structure that would manage all aspects, particularly those related to its success.
