Tunisia Launches Showroom to Promote Tunisian Olive Oil

The Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, Abdelmonem Belati, inaugurated a showroom dedicated to promoting Tunisian olive oil on Tuesday at the National Olive Oil Office (ONH). This event, relayed by the TAP agency, marks the opening of a 30m² exhibition space showcasing Tunisian olive oil varieties and brands that have won international competitions, targeting Tunisians and tourists.

The Minister highlighted the strategic importance of this product for the national economy, stating that the creation of this showroom is part of a broader approach to promoting Tunisian olive oil.

In terms of figures, Belati recalled that olive oil production reached 220,000 tons during the 2023/2024 season, with 128,654 tons exported for a value of 3.436 billion dinars from November 1, 2023, to the end of April 2024. Additionally, 14,175 tons of packaged olive oil were exported for a value of 407 million dinars during the same period.

These figures show a positive evolution of olive oil export revenues, with a 91% increase compared to the previous season, as well as a 27% improvement in the quantity of packaged olive oil exported.

The government has implemented a marketing program for 190,000 tons of olive oil by the end of October 2024, giving absolute priority to this sector. The Minister also indicated that Tunisia aims to reach a production of one million tons of olive oil, thanks to better land allocation, intensified irrigation perimeters, and the valorization of scientific research.

The opening of this showroom is part of the Tunisian Agriculture Week, celebrating National Agriculture Day on May 12, as well as the 60th anniversary of agricultural evacuation.
