China to Acquire Cement Factory in Tunisia for Over $100 Million

The Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, Wan Li, announced that a Chinese company specializing in the cement sector is set to acquire a cement factory in Tunisia for an amount exceeding $100 million.

In an interview on March 23, 2025, the Ambassador highlighted that this investment, which he considers major, represents the first direct engagement of China in Tunisia in several years.

"We have confidence that this company, at the forefront of technology, will introduce modern techniques and renovate the factory's equipment, which will have a positive impact on the environment," he stated. He also assured that this acquisition will improve the productivity and efficiency of the cement factory, located near Tunis.

According to Wan Li, this investment reflects the growing interest of Chinese companies in the Tunisian market. However, he acknowledged that these companies still lack familiarity with the country's regulatory framework.

Regarding the reconstruction of the El Menzah Olympic Stadium, he announced that a financing agreement has been concluded between Tunisia and China. He specified that the Tunisian side has submitted a feasibility study, currently being examined by the concerned Chinese companies. These companies have requested additional documents, while expressing their optimism about the project's progress thanks to the joint efforts of both parties.
