Tunisia Sees Significant Increase in Chinese Tourists, Eyes Direct Flight to Boost Numbers

Anouar Chetoui, representative of the Tunisian National Tourism Office in China, stated that the opening of a direct air route between Tunisia and China could substantially increase the number of Chinese tourists in Tunisia, potentially doubling the current numbers. As of the end of September 2025, approximately 20,000 Chinese tourists have visited the country, representing a 17.9% increase compared to 2024. The total number is expected to reach between 25,000 and 26,000 by the end of December.

Growth Driven by Effective Promotion and Bilateral Relations

This growth is part of an effective promotion strategy led by the Ministry of Tourism and the Tunisian National Tourism Office, strengthened by bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly after President Kaïs Saïed's visit to China in 2024. It has been highlighted that Chinese tourists tend to have longer stays and represent a dynamic market in terms of attendance and revenue.

Targeting the Chinese Market

To attract more Chinese tourists, the Tunisian tourism office has increased meetings with Chinese travel agencies to integrate Tunisia into their regular destination calendar. During the last exhibition in Guangzhou, a Tunisian pavilion was set up, and meetings were held with professionals from southern China to strengthen partnerships.

New Promotion Plan

The new tourism promotion plan will focus on showcasing Tunisia's intangible heritage and civilization, rich with over 3,000 years of history, through participation in international exhibitions and major cultural events in China. The office regularly participates in major Chinese cultural festivals through pavilions highlighting Tunisian archaeological sites, gastronomy, leisure tourism, and sports.
