Africa Without Visas: A Call to Action

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and the African Union Commission (AUC) have reiterated their call for a visa-free Africa, during the AU summit in Addis Ababa. According to the press release, the elimination of visa requirements between African countries could facilitate trade, tourism, worker mobility, and intra-continental investment.
Despite the creation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), visa restrictions continue to hinder travel and exchange. African institutions are encouraged to implement the African Passport and the Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, in order to strengthen economic integration and accelerate regional development.
