Restricted Ministerial Council Meeting Focuses on Draft Law on Confiscation and Management of Ill-Gotten Assets
A restricted ministerial council meeting was held on Wednesday at the Government Palace in Kasbah, under the presidency of Head of Government, Kamel Madouri. The meeting focused on examining the preliminary draft of a law on the confiscation, recovery, and management of ill-gotten assets.
During the meeting, the council reviewed the various aspects of the preliminary draft law, which aims to fill legal gaps, simplify lengthy procedures, and put an end to the unjustified proliferation of commissions in charge of this dossier.
According to a statement from the Government Presidency, the goal is to manage this dossier within a framework that ensures more effective governance, institutes legal and procedural guarantees, and respects international standards in the fight against corruption, including confiscation as a legal mechanism.
"The status of confiscated assets is a top priority," declared the Head of Government during the meeting, adding that the treatment of this dossier urgently requires a series of effective and efficient measures to safeguard movable and immovable assets and ensure the proper governance of their management.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of Government instructed the finalization of the draft law in the shortest possible timeframe, with a view to submitting it to the Council of Ministers for examination.
The meeting is part of the follow-up to the implementation of decisions emanating from the CMR of November 23, 2024, which focuses on the management of funds and assets subject to confiscation or recovery for the benefit of the State.
