Algeria Pursues Ambitious Infrastructure Modernization Strategy
Algeria is resolutely pursuing its strategy to modernize its infrastructure. As part of this effort, a new international airport is being studied to meet the growing demand for air traffic and potentially strengthen the country's position as a regional hub in North Africa and the Mediterranean.
Project Details
The project is expected to be located in Boughezoul, south of Algiers. Several sites are currently being studied, but no location has been officially selected, according to the Ministry of Public Works. To put this into perspective, it takes approximately 1 hour and 54 minutes to cover the 168 km distance between Algiers and Boughezoul by car.
Existing Infrastructure
It's worth noting that Algeria already has a large number of international airports, including:
- Algiers
- Oran
- Constantine
- Annaba
- Béjaïa
- Batna
- Biskra
- Hassi Messaoud
Smart City Initiative
This project is part of a broader initiative to transform Boughezoul into a "smart city," with the construction of a new modern city that will accompany the region's economic development and urban transformation.
