Tunisia Establishes National System for Verifying and Validating Greenhouse Gas Emissions Declarations
The Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy officially launched a strategic partnership on Monday, February 10, to establish a national system for verifying and validating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions declarations in Tunisia.
The agreement was signed by three key institutions: the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), represented by its Director General, the National Institute for Standardization and Industrial Property (INNORPI), and the Tunisian Accreditation Council (TUNAC), represented by its Director General. Officials from the three institutions were also present.
The main objective of this initiative is to reduce the carbon footprint of industrial sector companies while enhancing their competitiveness. The system aims to ensure the reliability of GHG emissions declarations, enabling Tunisian companies to access international markets more easily, where environmental requirements are increasingly stringent.
To ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, an inter-institutional working group will be established. Its mission will include developing a detailed regulatory framework, implementing specialized training programs, and strengthening the capacities of local experts to conduct verification operations in accordance with international standards.
As part of this reform, INNORPI will be responsible for verifying and validating carbon emissions declarations, while TUNAC will ensure the accreditation of the system, ensuring its alignment with international standards. Furthermore, awareness campaigns will be organized in collaboration with industrial technical centers to inform companies about the importance of this mechanism and its benefits in terms of environmental compliance and attractiveness for green investments.
