Tunisia Aims to Accelerate Energy Transition and Develop Renewable Energies
Tunisia is seeking to accelerate its energy transition and further develop renewable energies. To achieve this, several projects and partnerships are underway with international financial institutions.
Meeting with the International Finance Corporation (IFC)
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane, received a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. The delegation was led by David Tinel, in the presence of Sarah Morsi and representatives from the World Bank. The meeting took place at the ministry's headquarters.
Key Participants and Discussion Topics
The Director General of the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG), Abdelkader El Amidi, as well as several officials from the ministry, also participated in the meeting. The discussions focused on cooperation in two main areas:
- Mining
- Renewable energies
These sectors are considered crucial for strengthening the country's economy and energy security.
IFC's Involvement in Renewable Energy Projects
The IFC has already participated in the financing of a photovoltaic solar power plant in Sbikha-El Metbassta, in the Kairouan governorate, with a capacity of 100 megawatts. The institution also plans to finance new projects in renewable energies in the coming years, under the concession regime.
Tunisia's Commitment to Attracting International Investments
In general, these exchanges demonstrate Tunisia's willingness to attract more international investments to develop clean energies and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This commitment is expected to contribute to the country's energy transition and sustainable development.
