Tunisia's 4th District Sees 32% Increase in Exports in First 9 Months of 2024
In the first nine months of 2024, the 4th district of Tunisia (Sfax, Gafsa, Tozeur, and Sidi Bouzid) witnessed a significant surge in exports, reaching 3.7 billion dinars, a 32% increase compared to the previous year.
This represents 9% of the country's total export revenue. According to the Minister of Commerce, Samir Abid, this district is home to 720 enterprises, 136 of which are entirely export-oriented.
Notably, the country's total exports reached approximately 46 billion dinars, with a 2.1% increase compared to 2023, driven primarily by the agricultural and agro-food sectors. This growth has enabled a reduction in the trade deficit by 480 million dinars.
The Ministry of Commerce has outlined several programs to boost exports, including the implementation of the World Trade Organization's (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement.
Efforts will also be made to restructure the program for small exporters and revise the legal framework for external trade.
Furthermore, the National Trade Council will convene soon to discuss the challenges of internal trade, while another meeting of the Higher Council of Exports is scheduled to propose new ideas to encourage exports.
