Tunisia Marks a New Milestone in Preserving its Cultural Heritage

Tunisia has reached a new milestone in the preservation of its cultural heritage. On December 11, 2025, the country officially inscribed "Arabic kohl" on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, alongside eight other Arab countries. The announcement was made during the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held from December 8 to 13 in New Delhi, India.

With this inscription, Tunisia now boasts ten cultural elements recognized by UNESCO. Arabic kohl, traditionally used to outline the eyes, is more than just a beauty product.
