Government Council Meeting: Examining the 2026 Economic Budget Project

The Head of Government, Sara Zafrani Zenzri, presided over a ministerial council meeting on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Kasbah Palace, dedicated to examining the 2026 economic budget project.

Introduction

In opening the meeting, she emphasized that this document constitutes a reference stage in the country's economic and social construction, aiming to reconcile social justice and economic growth, in accordance with the vision of President Kaïs Saïed. She specified that this project will serve as the basis for launching the 2026-2030 development plan, which aims to promote comprehensive and balanced development in all regions.

Presentation of the Project

The Minister of Economy and Planning presented the main lines of the project, which are structured around four main axes:

  1. Strengthening Social Gains and Improving Living Conditions: Supporting the purchasing power of low-income households, fighting unemployment, implementing social housing, and activating the lease-purchase mechanism.
  2. Improving Public Services: Particularly in healthcare and education.
  3. Developing and Modernizing the Transportation Network.
  4. Accelerating the Realization of Public Projects.

Recommendations

The council also recommended several concrete measures, including:

  • New recruitments in the public sector starting in 2026 and the continuation of regularization of precarious workers.
  • Combating precarious employment and guaranteeing a fair salary with social protection.
  • Strengthening local health, education, and transportation services.
  • Relaunching public investment and renewable energy, with diversification of funding sources.
  • Integrating the parallel economy and supporting regional development based on the work of local and regional councils.

Conclusion

At the end of the meeting, it was decided to submit the final version of the 2026 economic budget project to the Council of Ministers, before transmitting it to the Assembly of People's Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Districts for approval.
