Launch of "Nemo Hout" Project in Tunisia

A new project dedicated to the fishing sector was launched on Wednesday, May 14, 2026, in Tunisia. Named "Nemo Hout", it targets coastal communities in the governorates of Nabeul, Sfax, and Médenine.

Project Objectives

The program, with a budget of 5.5 million euros, aims to strengthen the fishing industry through several actions:

  • Improvement of port services
  • Support for private initiatives
  • Strengthening of public institutions' and professional organizations' capacities in the sector

Implementation and Partnerships

The project is being implemented by CIHEAM Bari in partnership with the Directorate General of Fisheries and Aquaculture under the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture. The launch took place in the presence of Tunisian and Italian representatives, including AICS Tunis and the Italian Embassy.

Focus on Sustainability and Community Development

In addition to economic support, "Nemo Hout" emphasizes environmental sustainability and the development of communities living from fishing. The project is funded by Italian cooperation through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), as part of the programs to support the blue economy and sustainable development in Tunisia.
