The first edition of the SALMA Dialogue Business Forum was held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Tunisia, marking a crucial step in the efforts towards dialogue and cooperation between Africa, Latin America, and Europe. The result of negotiations conducted in several countries, this event aims to create a dynamic platform for the private sector across the three continents.
Among the topics addressed were key issues such as the launch of effective cooperation mechanisms, industry as a driver of South-South and triangular cooperation, and innovation in the face of new challenges in high-value-added sectors.
A Call for Triangular Cooperation
During the official opening, Imed Boukhris, Governor of Tunis, described the forum as a "genuine opportunity to weave new strategic alliances." He emphasized the urgency of addressing common challenges, such as digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and economic integration, while calling for the pooling of resources for sustainable and inclusive development.
Mohamed Ali Nafti, official representative, stressed the importance of South-South and triangular cooperation in overcoming the growing inequalities caused by economic, climate, and geopolitical crises. He recalled Tunisia's commitments, including agreements with organizations such as COMESA and ZLECAf, which demonstrate the country's willingness to diversify its economic partnerships.
Germany: A Key Player in International Cooperation
Elisabeth Wolbers, German Ambassador to Tunisia, highlighted Germany's central role in international cooperation, as the second-largest foreign investor in Tunisia in 2024. With over 300 companies employing 90,000 people, Germany is actively contributing to strategic sectors such as the automotive industry, electronics, and artificial intelligence.
She also emphasized the importance of bilateral initiatives, such as vocational training and support for the private sector.
Towards Inclusive Economic Integration
