Ministry of Health Highlights Preventable Cancer Cases on World Cancer Day
Today, February 4, on the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Ministry of Health revealed that one-third of cancer cases can be prevented. The ministry explained that by adopting a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding tobacco and pollution, one-third of recorded cancer cases can be avoided.
Early Detection and Social Cohesion Key to Cancer Prevention
The Ministry of Health emphasized that early cancer detection can save lives. It also highlighted the importance of social cohesion in providing serenity and reducing depression, which can improve a patient's quality of life and increase their chances of recovery. It is essential to continue raising awareness about the disease, ensuring early detection, and supporting patients. The importance of early detection is evident, for example, in breast cancer, where the remission rate reaches 90%.
Rising Cancer Cases in Tunisia
Soumaya Mansouri, coordinator of the national cancer control program, reported a continuous increase in colon cancer cases in Tunisia, making it the second most frequent cancer among women and fourth among men, with 4,000 new cases expected in 2023. Lung cancer also presents a concerning number of new cases, with no less than 3,000 expected in 2023, making it the most prevalent cancer among men.
