Japan Embassy in Tunisia Announces 130 MW Solar Project in Gabès

The Japanese Embassy in Tunisia has announced a photovoltaic project with a capacity of 130 MW in Gabès. According to a statement, the project was selected in February 2026 to receive a grant from the Japanese government under the Carbon Credit Exchange Mechanism (MCC). Additionally, the program supports projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, the grant is capped at 2 billion yen, equivalent to approximately 37 million dinars.

Project Implementation and Cooperation

The Japanese company Marubeni Corporation will implement the project in partnership with a French company. This project is the fourth MCC project in Tunisia, following two installations in Sidi Bouzid and one in Tozeur. This initiative strengthens Tunisian-Japanese cooperation for energy transition and the fight against climate change.
