Tunisia and India: $214 Million in Untapped Export Opportunities
Despite a significant volume of commercial exchanges, amounting to nearly $800 million in 2024, the Tunisian Export Promotion Center (Cepex) reveals that approximately $214 million in export opportunities to India remain largely untapped.
Strengthening Partnerships in High-Value Sectors
During a recent meeting between Mourad Ben Hassine, CEO of Cepex, and Shri Ngulkham Jathom, Indian Ambassador to Tunisia, both parties emphasized the growth potential through reinforced partnerships in high-value-added sectors. These sectors include:
- Chemical and fertilizer industries, particularly due to the presence of phosphoric acid in Skhira
- Pharmaceutical industries
- Renewable energy
- Electronics
- Agricultural products
Tunisia's Export Growth to India
Tunisia has experienced significant growth in its exports to the Indian market, driven by a spectacular 250% increase in olive oil exports and a 56% increase in date exports. On the import side, Tunisia primarily receives:
- Cars
- Spare parts
- Pharmaceuticals (up 637%)
- Tea
- Frozen fish
- Agricultural tractors
- Textiles
Strengthening Economic Cooperation
In 2024, India ranks as Tunisia's 9th largest trading partner in terms of imports and 16th in terms of exports. Both countries aim to expand this partnership, particularly by activating agreements such as the 2017 memorandum of understanding between Cepex and its Indian counterpart.
Indian Ambassador's Commitment
Ambassador Shri Ngulkham Jathom reaffirmed India's commitment to consolidating economic cooperation through:
- Enhanced exchanges
- Economic missions
- Regular bilateral business forums
Shared Ambitions
This collaboration is part of a shared ambition to remove customs and fiscal barriers, stimulate commercial exchanges, and open up new strategic perspectives, according to Cepex.
