US Department of State Updates Travel Advisory for Tunisia
The US Department of State has now classified Tunisia as a Level 2 destination in its travel advisory list, indicating an increased level of caution. This ranking places Tunisia on the same level as highly frequented destinations such as Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, and China.
Purpose of the Classification
This classification aims to inform travelers by providing a general assessment of risks. It does not reflect a specific danger for visitors but rather encourages them to remain alert and well-informed during their travels.
Tourism in Tunisia
On the tourism front, Tunisia continues to experience a positive trend. The country has surpassed the 11 million tourist mark in 2025, generating over 8 billion dinars in tourism revenue. These figures confirm the complete recovery of the sector, which attracts both European travelers and those from other regions of the world.
Practical Reminders for Travelers
The US Department of State also reminds travelers of certain practical rules, such as:
- The introduction of Tunisian dinars is prohibited upon entry or in transit in Tunisia, regardless of the amount.
- It is also advised not to bring foreign currencies exceeding 10,000 TND (approximately 3,000 USD).
- When departing, including in transit, any amount exceeding 5,000 TND (approximately 1,600 USD) must be declared for export.

Finally, it is recommended to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and facilitate location in case of an emergency, ensuring a more serene trip.
