Update on US Embassy Operations in Tunisia
The decision announced on December 5, 2025, by the US Embassy in Tunis, which planned to switch to limited operations starting from December 8, is no longer in effect. This update is the result of close cooperation between American and Tunisian authorities, according to the official statement published by the embassy.
Resumption of Consular Services
All consular services will resume normally. Visa interviews, whether for tourism, study, or professional purposes, will continue to be provided, as well as routine and emergency services for American citizens. Appointments canceled during the period of uncertainty will be automatically rescheduled, the diplomatic representation specifies, and asks those concerned to wait to be contacted.
Recommendations for American Citizens
The embassy also recommends that American citizens present in Tunisia or traveling abroad register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a alert system that allows receiving security updates and consular information in real time. Registration can be done online through the official platform of the Department of State.
Return to Full Operational Capacity
This announcement marks a return to full operational capacity and aims to reassure travelers and visa applicants, after an initial notice that had raised multiple questions.
