Tunisia and Egypt Strengthen Economic Cooperation with Joint Bank Project
Tunisia and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering their economic cooperation with the announcement, on April 16, 2025, of a project to create an Egyptian-Tunisian bank. The initiative was discussed during the official visit of Egyptian Investment Minister Hassan Al-Khatib to Tunis.
This future financial institution aims to facilitate commercial transactions between the two countries and support investors and businesses on both sides. It builds on a memorandum signed in September 2024 between the Tunisian and Egyptian Central Banks, focusing on financial stability and monetary policies.
Major Egyptian public banks are invited to explore the possibility of opening a branch or office in Tunisia. The goal is to create an operational framework conducive to increased financial integration between the two economies.
This project is part of a South-South cooperation dynamic, driven by a shared desire to strengthen regional complementarities.
