Joint Press Conference: Egypt and Tunisia Aim to Double Trade Volume
The Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Kamal Madbouly, and the Tunisian Head of Government, Sara Zaafarani Zenzari, held a joint press conference on September 11, 2025, in the new Egyptian administrative capital.
Doubling Trade Volume
They expressed their shared desire to double the volume of trade exchanges between their countries to reach $1 billion within the next two years. This announcement follows the signing of several protocols of agreement and implementation programs in various sectors, as part of Tunisian-Egyptian cooperation.
Successful Cooperation
Mostafa Kamal Madbouly praised the success of the 18th session of the Tunisian-Egyptian Higher Committee and the quality of cooperation relations between Egypt and Tunisia. During this exchange, several bilateral and regional issues were discussed, including the Palestinian cause.
Support for the Palestinian Cause
Both parties reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to an independent state, based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They emphasized the importance of a just settlement in the face of the aggressions suffered by the Palestinians, stressing that lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved with the creation of such a sovereign state.
Strengthening Cooperation
The Tunisian Head of Government highlighted the importance of leveraging the good personal relationships between the presidents of the two countries to strengthen their cooperation in many areas, particularly in the economic sector. She emphasized the human skills and capabilities available in both countries, as well as their strategic positions in Africa, with Tunisia in the west and Egypt in the center and east, allowing them to extend their investments beyond their borders to the entire African continent.
Increasing Trade Exchanges
She recalled the sustained dynamic of Tunisian-Egyptian technical committees, while calling for intensified efforts and visits to increase the volume of trade exchanges, which is still considered insufficient. The 18th session of the Joint Committee is seen as a new impetus to strengthen ties between Tunisia and Egypt, with increased commitment from Egyptian leaders to intensify their cooperation in the coming months.
Regional Issues
Finally, the Tunisian Head of Government reaffirmed Tunisia's constant position on the Palestinian issue, recalling that regional peace and security cannot be achieved without a complete, just, and lasting settlement of the Palestinian cause, particularly through the end of the Israeli occupation, in accordance with various charters and resolutions.
Regarding Libya, she reiterated Tunisia's support for an internal solution to the conflict through a "Libyan-Libyan" dialogue, without foreign interference, emphasizing the respect for sovereignty and national choices of the peoples of the region.
