Tunisia Focuses on Halal Products to Diversify Exports
Tunisia is increasingly relying on the halal products sector to diversify its exports and open up to new international markets, according to the Tunisian news agency TAP.
A Growing Market
This dynamic was reaffirmed during a awareness-raising workshop bringing together Tunisian economic actors and foreign experts, with the support of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC). The discussions focused on the opportunities offered by the global growth of this market, as well as the obstacles faced by local companies already engaged in certification processes.
Importance of Technical Standards
The participants also emphasized the importance of technical standards and quality requirements established by the SMIIC. These benchmarks are considered a key lever to strengthen the compliance of Tunisian products and improve their competitiveness in exports.
Cooperation with SMIIC
In this context, a visit to Tunisia by the Secretary General of the SMIIC, Ehsan Övüt, accompanied by a delegation of experts, was made to the National Institute of Standardization and Industrial Property (INNORPI). The aim is to consolidate cooperation between the two institutions and encourage the involvement of Tunisian expertise in international technical committees.
Structuring Tunisia's Halal Strategy
Through these initiatives, Tunisia is seeking to further structure its strategy in the halal sector, considered a promising sector globally, by relying on international standards to facilitate access to new markets.
