Tunisian-Canadian Cooperation Program: "Inclusive Climate Action" in Tunisian Municipalities
The Tunisian-Canadian cooperation program, titled "Inclusive Climate Action" in Tunisian municipalities, mobilizes $11 million CAD (22 million TND) over three years to finance environmental projects in nine municipalities across the country.
Announced on November 27 by the Minister of Environment, Habib Abid, this program aims to help local communities adapt to the challenges of climate change.
The planned initiatives include:
- Using traditional cisterns (majels) for water storage
- Recycling wastewater
- Managing household waste
- Developing beaches
Particular emphasis will be placed on supporting rural women, who often face difficulties accessing water.
This collaboration involves Tunisian municipalities and their Montreal counterparts, in partnership with the Ministries of Environment and Interior.
Out of 68 candidate municipalities, nine will be selected based on the evaluation of their projects, with the support of local experts.
This program adds to other initiatives funded by international partners, such as the European Union, to support Tunisian municipalities in their ecological transition.
