Ministry of Transport Conducts Field Visit to Jendouba Governorate

The Ministry of Transport carried out a field visit to the Jendouba governorate to assess the progress of projects and the functioning of various transportation services.

Key Structures Visited

The visit enabled the monitoring of several key structures, including:

  • The Jendouba Regional Transport Company
  • The Technical Agency for Land Transport
  • The Tunisian National Railway Company
  • The Civil Aviation and Airports Office
  • The National Office for Land Borders The Minister was accompanied by the Governor of Jendouba and several regional and central officials from the transportation sector.

Visit to Tabarka-Aïn Draham International Airport

During the visit to the Tabarka-Aïn Draham International Airport, the Minister called on the various stakeholders to present concrete programs aimed at revitalizing the platform's activity, as part of the national plan to revitalize domestic airports. The Minister also highlighted that the Ministry has strengthened the public transportation fleet for the Jendouba region, as part of two international contracts for over 1,000 buses in total. A portion of these buses has already been allocated to the region, with a clear objective: to improve the quality of service and strengthen school and university mobility.

Inspection of New Bus Maintenance Workshop and Washing System

The Minister also inspected a new bus maintenance workshop and a recently installed washing system, which has been put into service to optimize time and resources.

Visit to Land Border Posts

The visit also concerned the Melloula and Babouche land border posts. Officials presented indicators for 2025, showing a significant increase in traffic. The Melloula post ranks first in terms of flow with Algeria and second nationally, with over 2.66 million passengers, a 16% increase compared to 2023. The Babouche post also records a positive dynamic, with a 59% increase compared to 2023.

Key Decisions Announced

Following the visit, several orientations were announced:

  • Maintaining and consolidating the model land border post status of Melloula, particularly with its free trade zone project, presented as a first in North Africa.
  • Strengthening coordination to facilitate passage at the Babouche post and ensure user safety.
  • Increasing public transportation frequencies in Jendouba, particularly during periods of high demand and national exams.
  • Accelerating the implementation of digital management and ticketing systems within the regional transport company.
  • Calling for the removal of out-of-service buses as soon as possible to improve the performance of the vehicle fleet.
  • Urgent rehabilitation of the Jendouba railway station by the Tunisian National Railway Company.
  • Upgrading the bus station by the Technical Agency for Land Transport.
