Tunis-Jelma Highway to Open in 2027

The Tunis-Jelma highway is expected to open in 2027, according to the Minister of Equipment and Housing, Slah Zouari. He reaffirmed this promise on Wednesday, April 1, during a visit to the construction site of the first section between Tunis and Zaghouan.

Current Progress

The project currently shows 38% progress, with 186 kilometers of road to be built. Although this is insufficient to meet the schedule, the minister is aware of the situation and has taken steps to address it. During his visit, he chaired working sessions on the first three sections: Tunis-Zaghouan, Zaghouan-El Fahs, and El Fahs-Nadhour. His instruction to the companies was clear: more equipment, more workers, and a faster pace - without compromising quality.

Importance of the Project

For the inhabitants of Zaghouan, Kairouan, and Sidi Bouzid, this highway is more than just a road. It represents a direct connection to the capital, reducing travel time and providing easier access to services, markets, and opportunities. The project spans five governorates and is divided into 8 sections, with a total cost of 1.7 billion dinars.

Call for Coordination

The minister also emphasized the need for permanent coordination between central services, regional teams, companies, and study offices. The goal is to identify and resolve any blockages quickly, ensuring the project stays on track.

Visit Details

The visit was attended by the Governor of Zaghouan, Karim Beranji, the General Directors of Bridges and Roads and the Implementation Unit, as well as representatives of the companies responsible for the work.
