2025 Global Ranking of Sports Science Schools and Departments Reveals Pleasant Surprises

The latest 2025 global ranking of sports science schools and departments, published by Shanghai Ranking, has unveiled some exciting surprises. At the top of the list, Australia's Deakin University leads the way, followed by the University of Southern Denmark and the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. This ranking, which was initiated in 2016, scrutinizes over 300 universities worldwide, based on the quality of scientific publications, citations, presence in prestigious journals, and international collaborations. Among them, 15 institutions are exclusively dedicated to sports science.

What About Tunisia?

Tunisia is not left behind. Three Tunisian universities are featured in this global ranking. The University of Sfax, via the High Institute of Sport and Physical Education of Sfax (Issep Sfax), stands out by ranking in the 51-100 range. The University of Jendouba, through the Kef Higher Institute of Sport and Physical Education (Issep Kef), positions itself in the 151-200 category, while the University of La Manouba, thanks to the High Institute of Sport and Physical Education of Ksar-Saïd (Issep Ksar-Saïd), ranks in the 201-300 range.

A Confirmation of Progress

This progress confirms the constant improvement of Tunisian research in sports science. For some institutes, such as the one in La Manouba, it's even a return to the global top after years of stable presence in the 201-300 range. The efforts in academic publications and international outreach are therefore bearing fruit.

Global Leaders in Sports Science

The 2025 ranking highlights Tunisia's rise to prominence on the global sports science scene, while also shedding light on world leaders still largely dominated by Australia and Northern Europe. To discover the complete list, visit Shanghai Ranking.
