UNESCO Launches Key Report on Digital Transformation of Education Systems in Maghreb Countries

On November 26, UNESCO launched a crucial report on the digital transformation of education systems in Maghreb countries, titled "From Caterpillar to Butterfly."

The report aims to highlight the importance of integrating digital technologies into education governance and advocates for them to become a strategic axis for countries in the region.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministries of Education of Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Mauritania, the report presents a series of recommendations to strengthen digital transformation in Maghreb education systems. One of the main challenges mentioned is the need to overcome inequalities in internet access, particularly in rural areas and among marginalized populations.

The report emphasizes the importance of a concerted strategic vision to integrate technology into education and recommends increasing public budgets to modernize digital infrastructure.

Among the proposed solutions are the creation of joint digital centers, mobile learning laboratories, and the exploration of new funding sources, including development agency funds and public-private partnerships.

Another key recommendation of the report is the development of digital skills among girls and women, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, to reduce gender gaps. The report also advocates for the ethical use of artificial intelligence in education.

It is worth noting that this report will be followed by an annual UNESCO publication, offering continuous analysis of developments in Maghreb education, contributing to a regional dialogue on best practices in digital transformation.
