Toyota Remains the World's Leading Automaker with 10.8 Million Vehicles Sold in 2024

Despite a slight 3.7% decrease compared to the previous year, Toyota solidified its position as the world's leading automaker, selling 10.8 million vehicles in 2024. The Japanese giant's success can be attributed to its innovative strategy, electrification, and energy diversification.

In France, Toyota's partnership with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games contributed to its market share reaching 7.4%, a significant increase. The brand's success is particularly evident in the sales of models like the Yaris and Yaris Cross, which account for 54% of Toyota's registrations in France.

A Hybrid Strategy that Pays Off

Toyota's strength lies in its early commitment to electrification. With the launch of the Prius in 1997, Toyota became a pioneer in hybrid technology, which remains at the heart of its strategy. In 2024, the manufacturer sold 4.5 million electrified vehicles, including hybrid models, representing a 23% increase compared to the previous year. This result reflects consumers' confidence in hybridization as a key solution to address current environmental challenges.

"Our ambition is to decarbonize, and we will continue in this direction," declares Florian Aragon, President of Toyota France. According to the Japanese manufacturer, hybrids remain the ideal solution for reducing CO2 emissions while meeting consumers' expectations for sustainable mobility.

A Multi-Energy Approach: A Long-Term Vision

Toyota has adapted to market evolutions while remaining faithful to its vision of diversified mobility. The brand invests in multiple technologies, enabling it to anticipate future environmental regulations. By 2025, Toyota expects nearly 90% of its passenger car sales in France to be hybrid models, in response to increasingly stringent CO2 emission standards, including the CAFE regulation.

To ensure compliance with these new standards, Toyota has made the strategic decision to join a pool of manufacturers, including Tesla, aiming to reduce the automotive sector's collective CO2 emissions. The manufacturer plans to reduce its CO2 emissions by seven to eight grams in 2025 to achieve its environmental objectives.

Exemplary Stability Thanks to a Varied Hybrid Range

For the fifth consecutive year, Toyota has demonstrated that its hybrid and multi-energy strategy, supported by a diversified range of hybrid models, remains a global success. From the Yaris to the Corolla, Prius, and Yaris Cross, each Toyota hybrid model responds to varied needs while contributing to CO2 emission reduction. This approach enables Toyota not only to maintain its position as the world's leading automaker but also to adapt to future environmental challenges. By remaining faithful to its vision of sustainable mobility, Toyota continues to play a key role in the energy transition, offering its customers a wide range of ecological and high-performance mobility solutions.
