Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Announces Cooperation Programs with Education and Employment Ministries

Sofiène Tekaya, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, announced on Monday, on the sidelines of the award ceremony for the winners of the 2025 National Handicrafts Competition, that cooperation programs are being prepared with the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment. These initiatives aim to establish training programs adapted to the specialties of Tunisian handicrafts.

Tekaya highlighted that over 60% of exhibitors at the National Handicrafts Fair are young higher education graduates, illustrating the growing appeal of the sector, which is undergoing a significant transformation and attracting more and more young people, both men and women.

Regarding exports, the minister specified that in 2024, they exceeded 160 million dinars, with the United States being the top destination for Tunisian handicraft products. He also revealed that a new program is underway to explore new markets in Africa, an initiative that will further strengthen the sector.

On the tourism front, Tekaya indicated that Tunisia could welcome up to 11 million visitors during the next season, compared to 10.25 million in 2024. Efforts are underway to promote the destination in new markets, particularly in the Czech Republic, China, and Spain.

In this regard, an agreement has already been signed with the Czech Republic to launch direct flights between the two countries starting from April 2025.
