Tunisia Introduces Preferential Rates for Local Tourists in Classified Restaurants
The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts has announced a new measure to boost domestic tourism: Tunisian families and local tourists will now benefit from preferential rates in classified tourist restaurants, particularly during vacation periods.
Decision Made to Support Local Tourism
This decision was made following a meeting held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, between the Minister of Tourism, Soufiane Tekaya, and members of the new executive board of the Tunisian Federation of Tourist Restaurants. The aim is to encourage local tourism and provide affordable options for Tunisian families.
Update of Restaurant Classification Criteria
Among other decisions adopted, the update of restaurant classification criteria is intended to adapt them to international standards and consumer expectations. This reform aims to:
- Simplify administrative procedures
- Stimulate investment
- Improve the quality of services
Collaboration for Modernized Training Programs
The Ministry also announced the collaboration between the Federation and the Agency for Training in Tourism Professions and the Higher Institute of Tourism and Hotel Studies in Sidi Dhrif. The goal is to modernize training programs and introduce new specialties that meet the needs of the market.
Part of a Broader Strategy
This initiative is part of the Ministry's overall strategy to strengthen domestic tourism, a priority already emphasized by the Minister in July 2025 during a hearing session before the Tourism Commission of the ARP. On that occasion, Soufiane Tekaya stressed the need to optimize the management of public tourist assets and create a national digital booking platform. This platform will ensure:
- Greater transparency
- Competitive prices
- Better planning for Tunisian families wishing to enjoy quality services at controlled prices.
