Morocco Emerges as a Global Agricultural Powerhouse, Especially in Tomato Exports
In 2024, Morocco exported a record volume of 579,790 tons of tomatoes, according to data published by Hortoinfo. This achievement marks a 17.7% growth compared to the previous year, enabling Morocco to surpass Spain (531,770 tons) for the first time and become the second-largest supplier of fresh tomatoes to the European market, behind the Netherlands.
Over the 2015-2024 period, Moroccan exports to the EU have progressed at an average annual rate of 4.9%, thereby doubling the generated revenue.
In the global ranking, Morocco now positions itself as the third-largest tomato exporter, behind Mexico and the Netherlands, solidifying its place among the elite circle of giants in the sector.
Regarding Tunisia, it displays a notable position in the regional landscape. In 2023, national tomato production reached 1.28 million tons, according to official figures. This volume enables Tunisia to rank among the top ten tomato-producing countries, occupying the fourth position in the MENA region.
