Tunisia's Telecommunications Sector Sees Renewal in 2025

The telecommunications sector in Tunisia confirmed its ability to renew itself in 2025, with more than just a simple revenue increase. The nature of consumption itself is evolving. According to figures from the National Telecommunications Authority (INT), the sector's global turnover reached over 4.1 billion dinars, a slight but real increase compared to 2024.

A Pivotal Context: The Launch of 5G

This progress takes place in a pivotal context, marked by the official entry of 5G into the Tunisian market. Launched commercially in mid-February 2025 by the three operators, namely Tunisie Télécom, Ooredoo, and Orange, this new technology has given a new boost to the sector, after a long period of testing and preparation.

Increased Investments

The effects of this transition are first seen in investments. In one year, the amounts committed have increased significantly, exceeding 1.19 billion dinars in 2025, compared to 753 million dinars in 2024. This evolution reflects the effort made by operators to modernize their networks and meet a growing demand for high-speed digital services.

Internet Services Drive Growth

Not surprisingly, internet services are driving growth. Mobile internet, in particular, is emerging as the main driver of the market, with revenues increasing significantly. Fixed internet is following the same trajectory, driven by the expansion of access and increasingly intensive domestic use.

Traditional Telephony Continues to Decline

In contrast, traditional telephony continues to lose ground. Mobile calls are declining, competed by messaging and online communication applications, which are now at the heart of digital habits. Fixed-line telephony, already weakened in recent years, continues to decline, confirming a structural rather than conjunctural trend.

Penetration Indicators

Penetration indicators, on the other hand, confirm the anchoring of digital technology in the daily lives of Tunisians. The number of subscriptions is approaching 15 million, with a penetration rate exceeding 125%. Mobile internet access is approaching 90%, while more than half of households have a fixed connection.

Changing Consumption Patterns

In terms of consumption, usage is evolving more than budgets. Expenditures related to mobile calls remain stable, while those dedicated to internet access are increasing progressively. A revealing shift: data has become the heart of telecom consumption, relegating voice to the background.
