Tunisian Solidarity Bank Launches Initiative to Support Small Farmers in Tataouine

In partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Maritime Fishing, the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS) has announced a series of measures to support small farmers in Tataouine and promote sustainable development in the region.

Supporting Small Farmers

  • A program worth one million dinars has been launched to finance the equipment of small farmers with solar panels, enabling the electrification of wells.
  • An envelope of 500,000 dinars has been allocated to help farmers acquire modern equipment for water-saving irrigation.
  • Livestock breeders will also benefit from a separate allocation of 500,000 dinars to purchase coarse fodder, responding to the specific needs of the region's livestock sector.

Special Seasonal Loans

Starting from the next agricultural season, Tataouine will benefit from a special program of seasonal loans for large-scale crops, with dedicated funds to support this initiative.

Tree Nurseries and Entrepreneurship

  • Five fruit tree nurseries, including olive tree plantations, will be financed, offering young graduates from the region the opportunity to contribute to the greening of their native land.
  • To strengthen local entrepreneurship, five community societies and five agricultural development groups will receive training and financing support.

Partnership with Local Businesses

An effort is underway to coordinate with local oil companies and regional authorities to leverage available funds under the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in partnership with the Tunisian Solidarity Bank, to finance agricultural projects.

Expected Outcomes

These measures are expected to enhance the capacity of small farmers to cope with production costs and needs, while meeting the requirements of the sector.
