Forbes 2024 Ranking of African Billionaires Reveals a Combined Fortune of $82.4 Billion

The cumulative wealth of African billionaires has reached $82.4 billion, a slight increase of 1.1% compared to the previous year.

The group of African billionaires consists of 20 members, with an average fortune of $4.12 billion.

South Africa still dominates the ranking with six billionaires, followed by Egypt (five) and Nigeria (four). Morocco, Algeria, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe each have one billionaire.

Aliko Dangote retains the top spot for the 13th consecutive year, with an estimated fortune of $13.9 billion. Johann Rupert ($10.1 billion) and Nicky Oppenheimer ($9.4 billion) complete the top three.

North Africa, particularly Egypt, stands out with Nassef Sawiris, whose fortune has increased by $1.4 billion thanks to the rise in Adidas' stock price.

On the other hand, Algerian Issad Rebrab has seen his fortune reduced by nearly 50%, dropping to $2.5 billion, following a ban on exercising commercial activities.

It is noteworthy that the absence of women in this top ranking is striking, with the departure of Angolan Isabel Dos Santos in 2021.
