Starbucks Strike Spreads to Over 300 Stores in the US, Involving 5,000 Employees
A strike at Starbucks is spreading to over 300 stores in the United States, involving more than 5,000 employees. Scheduled to last until Christmas Eve, it could become the largest strike ever recorded within the chain, according to Starbucks Workers United, which represents 525 establishments.
The union has announced the closure of over 60 stores in 12 major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle, due to disagreements over wages, staffing, and schedules.
Starbucks, which operates over 10,000 stores in the US, has downplayed the impact of the strike, stating that the vast majority of its establishments will remain open and expressing its willingness to resume negotiations.
The union is criticizing a recent offer from the company, deemed insufficient, with no immediate wage increase and a limited 1.5% raise in the coming years.
