Digitalization of Wholesale Markets in Tunisia
A New Era for SOTUMAG
August 15, 2026, will mark a significant milestone for the Tunisian Wholesale Markets Company (SOTUMAG) with the implementation of electronic invoicing for the Téboulba wholesale market. This is a major step forward in the national program led by the company, under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade and Export Development, which aims to modernize wholesale markets and digitize their transactions.
Pilot Project in Moknine
Prior to Téboulba, the fruit and vegetable market in Moknine served as a pilot project. The trial having been successful, SOTUMAG has decided to expand the experience. Before the official launch, a preparation phase is still needed to address two key points: obtaining the necessary health certification and finalizing the digital tool that will enable real-time tracking of products.
Objective: Tracking Every Movement of Goods
The goal behind this digitization is simple: to know in real-time what is circulating on the wholesale markets. This will help limit the gray areas surrounding the distribution of agricultural and fishing products in Tunisia and provide authorities with reliable figures to guide food security policy.
Expansion to Other Markets
The project will not stop at Téboulba. SOTUMAG has already identified its next targets: the markets of Kairouan and Gabès, where the same system will be gradually installed.
