Ministries of Agriculture and Industry Simplify Procedures for Solar Energy Projects

The Ministries of Agriculture and Industry aim to simplify procedures for investors seeking to develop solar energy production projects.

This measure includes streamlining procedures related to hydrological studies and obtaining necessary authorizations for the temporary use of public water domains. It also aims to resolve issues concerning study validations and connections to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) network.

These measures were taken during a joint working session held on Monday, December 23, 2024. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of State for Water Resources and the Secretary of State for Energy Transition. Representatives from the National Water Distribution and Exploitation Company (SONEDE), STEG, and officials from both ministries attended the session.

During the session, participants presented programs from various entities, including SONEDE, the Northern Canal and Water Conduits Operation Company, and the General Directorate of Dams and Major Hydraulic Works. These programs aim to promote the use of renewable energies, particularly solar energy, in the country's hydraulic infrastructure.

Finally, it was recommended to organize a meeting as soon as possible between SONEDE, the Ministry of Industry, and the Public-Private Partnership General Authority.

This meeting will focus on two key projects: a 35 MW solar power plant in Tozeur and a 30 MW plant in Sfax, both envisioned as public-private partnerships.

This initiative is part of the national strategy to promote renewable energies and meet growing energy needs while preserving the country's water resources.
